Common questions
How much does a session with a psychologist cost?
All sessions are 50 minutes long and cost $190 including GST. The first consultation is free.
What happens in the free initial consultation?
It's a short online meeting where we talk about the kind of help you're looking for. If we feel we're a good fit, we book an initial appointment. There's no obligation to continue.
Do you offer sessions in person and online?
Yes. You can see me in person in Wellington, or online by video from anywhere in New Zealand.
Do you work with children and teenagers?
Yes. I work with children and adolescents who are struggling with anxiety, behaviour or attending school, and I work closely with parents and, where it helps, schools. More about working with children.
Is what I say in therapy confidential?
Yes, with a small number of legal exceptions. See Confidentiality below for the details.
What if I need to cancel?
Please give at least 24 hours' notice. If you don't, and the session can't be filled, the session fee is still payable.
Terms and conditions
Collecting and recording personal information
As part of providing a psychological service to you, I will collect and record personal information relevant to your situation. This information is a necessary part of assessment and treatment. The service is bound by the legal requirements of the Privacy Act 2020.
The information is gathered as part of your support and is seen only by me, and by my clinical supervisor if needed. It's kept to document what happens during sessions so I can provide a relevant and informed service.
At any stage you're entitled to access the information about you that is kept on file, unless the relevant legislation says otherwise. I'm happy to discuss the forms of access with you.
Confidentiality
All information I collect while providing the service stays confidential and secure, except where:
- it is subpoenaed by the Court; or
- there is a serious threat to the life, health or safety of you or the public, or on a rare occasion, to help locate a missing person; or
- you have given prior approval for me to (1) provide a written report to a professional or agency such as a GP, (2) discuss the material with another person, such as a parent or GP, or (3) disclose it where otherwise required or authorised by law.
Fees
All sessions are 50 minutes long and cost $190 including GST.
An invoice is issued after each session and payment is expected within 5 working days. If a fee is outstanding, further appointments can't go ahead until payment has been received.
Cancellation policy
If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please give at least a day's notice (24 hours).
If you don't give this notice and your session time can't be filled, you'll need to pay the cost of the session.
Online sessions
Online sessions are held by video and need an internet connection. If you haven't used the software before, you may need to download it before our session. Instructions are in the email that confirms your appointment.
It's best to have a quiet, private space and a suitable device: a smartphone, laptop, iPad or computer with a camera, microphone and speaker, plus a reliable internet connection.
Any communication over the internet is only as private as the technology used. I make sure our Zoom sessions are password protected and that only you have the login details. Online appointments can be affected by an unstable connection, which may affect the quality of the session.
